Implementing flood management safeguards

Discipline Civil, Flood planning

Date Completed January 2017

The Ripley Valley Regional Detention basin was designed and constructed to provide a centralised detention system for the development of Ecco Ripley and the Ripley Town Centre.

The design ensured that regional flood events along Bundamba Creek would not be impeded by the basin. Coincidental flood assessments ensured there was adequate volumes for the local and regional events without adverse external impacts.

MPN undertook the flood and geotechnical assessments with KBR and Butler Partners including external assessments for geomorphology, dam break modelling and geotechnical design criteria for the basin walls. The basin incorporated many landscape aspects and safety features to negate the requirement for fencing, along with fauna passage features.
