MPN provided civil and structural services for the redevelopment of Westfield Carindale, one of Queensland’s premier shopping and lifestyle destinations.
The project was significant in scope and included the demolition of the existing Carindale Hotel, construction of new basement car parking, the addition of 35,000m2 of retail space over two levels and rooftop carparking with associated vehicle ramps. The inclusion of a fan roofed, Glass House dining precinct was a key design feature of the project.
Key aspects of the project included:
- The existing centre was to remain operational with minimal disruption to existing tenants and shoppers.
- Structural modification works to the existing centre including new penetrations for mall voids and vertical transport, infilling of existing voids, upgrading of the existing structure for increased design loads, and isolated column removal and relocations within tenancies and new malls.
- Structural framing systems that eliminated structural bracing within retail areas for maximum future layout flexibility.
- Structural allowance for future extension
