MPN was engaged as a key strategic partner in the redevelopment of Chermside Shopping Centre. Taking place over multiple stages, these complex projects resulted in Westfield Chermside becoming Queensland’s largest centre and Australia’s 3rd largest shopping centre.
Built in 1957, Westfield Chermside was Australia’s first suburban shopping centre. With such rich heritage, project parameters included maintaining the integrity of the original build while modernising the centre to suit today’s community standards.
Stages 4 and 5 of renovations involved the construction of approximately 100,000 sq. m of retail tenancies with basement and rooftop parking.
Key design features delivered by MPN included:
- Design and coordination of surrounding road network modifications to accommodate increased traffic volumes for this major retail hub.
- Design and coordination of significant stormwater drainage systems passing under the centre to accommodate Downfall Creek that passes through the development site.
- Design of post-tensioned floor plate systems to maximize cost efficiencies and reduce construction times.
- Structural allowance for future extension.
