MPN’s association with Indooroopilly Shopping Centre spans over 50 years. It is this in-depth understanding of the complex that allowed for the successful delivery of the $450 million redevelopment.
The transformation added over 30,000 sq. m of retail space, a new mall, fresh food area, new department store and supermarket tenancies, external restaurant spaces and significant works to the existing centre to align with the new works.
Key features of the project included:
- New mezzanine car park constructed below the existing centre. Due to insufficient clearances on the existing ground floor, the footings supporting the existing five-storey centre needed to be lowered to accommodate the new mezzanine. MPN developed an innovative method of safely ‘lowering’ the existing footings whilst the centre remained trading.
- The closure of two roads where MPN co-ordinated the road network modifications as well as all service diversions and new service easements.
- Significant structural modification works to the existing centre. These included new penetrations for lifts and escalators, infilling of existing voids, upgrading of the structure for increased design loads, column removal within tenancies and new loading docks as well as modifications to the existing façade.
- MPN worked closely with Brookfield Multiplex to ensure all works were staged to minimise the impact of works on the existing tenants.
